Two chiefs in Homa Bay County have been accused of attacking a resident and gouging out one of his eyes after he was found outside past curfew hours.

22 journalists attacked between March and April 2020.This constitutes 37 per cent of the total violations during the monitoring period.

Police have killed 11 people and injured 30 while enforcing the curfew to curb the spread of the coronavirus. In a report released by  the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) also said 41 people were tortured by police during the 7pm to 5am curfew period that started on March 27.

Tsavo becomes dumping ground for murdered men. Haki Africa  report, “The State of Human Rights at the Coast”. According to the report, there were 443 cases of human rights violations in 2019, including killings by the police. There were 59 killings, 43 of them linked to security officers, 11 to suspected criminal gangs and five through mob lynching. The report further says that there were 11 disappearances in the region last year.
